Welcome to Where QuickGuide San Antonio, formerly Best Read Guide. Morris Visitor Publications' national marketing team has done numerous studies and found that Where is a recognizable name to travelers around the world. With these findings comes the conversion of Best Read Guide to Where QuickGuide. You'll find that the revised format continues to give you the lowdown on the great attractions, tours, restaurants, events, shopping and nightlife this town has to offer ... and more.
A River Runs Through It: San Antonio's Famous River Walk
Bubbling out of the ancient "Blue Hole" on the present campus of the University of the Incarnate Word, the river dubbed Yanaguana by the Payaya Indians weaves its green thread south through neighborhoods, parks and businesses to become, four miles later, the famed Paseo del Rio or San Antonio River Walk. Its story is as colorful as the buildings and foliage it lazily flows past. See story.
South Padre a Travel Channel 'Top Beach'
South Padre Island is "perfect for vacationing families and honeymooners," says the Travel Channel, whose Web site has named the island as one of America's Best Beaches for Families for 2006. SPI "remains pleasant when the rest of the state is at its coldest," the Travel Channel said. "This beach is for the value-conscious traveler ... there are scores of moderately priced and budget accommodations, including well-known chains and one-of-a-kind motels with more charm than class." Restaurants, bars, shops, movie theater and water sports also were noted. To learn more about the island as a destination, see www.sopadre.com.
Dick's Last Resort: Your Mama Warned Ya
Dick's Last Resort on the San Antonio River Walk isn't exactly sure why it harbors such massive appeal. But it lists "the wacky tacky decor, the sometimes sassy service or the bountiful buckets of fabulous food" as possibilities. For more on Dick's, click here.
