Engler Block Fulfills Unique Vision
Nearly 20 years ago, renowned woodcarver Peter Engler proposed an idea to Mid and Evelyn Harris to convert their large one-story warehouse on Highway 76 into a charming, craft shopping mall.
Engler Block includes 30 upscale shops and store-like facades and nooks and crannies in which demonstrating craftspeople can be seen at work as well as visiting with customers. There are musicians and food facilities and other innovations that make a visit there an "experience" while shopping for quality jewelry, stained glass art, homemade candles, wooden furniture and paintings.
Today, it is a one-of-a-kind shopping experience where the country's best craftsmen and artists collaborate under one roof in a climate-controlled shopping mall. You may see artist in residence Wren Helwig blowing glass, or silversmith Ernest Pino creating a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry, or craftsman Greg Vidito creating a leather belt or wallet, and much more!
The moment you walk in the door the experience begins with the fragrance of fresh brewed latte or cappuccino. There's something for everyone as you watch the creative local artists in their unique shops.
Now you have an exta special reason to visit, as the famous Kansas City style Wishbone Restaurant is now open in the Engler Block and can be reached at (417) 332-2233.
